The 777 is Boeing’s best-selling jetliner of all time and is the longest-range version of the Boeing 747. It is used by airlines worldwide on long-haul routes. It is a very popular aircraft due to its spacious cabins, high seating capacity, and fuel efficiency. It also has a good safety record.
The aircraft was flying from Hong Kong to Madrid when it triggered the instrument warning light, which is associated with possible engine failure. Pilots immediately turned back to Moscow and landed safely at Sheremetyevo airport. No injuries were reported. The plane was owned by Rossiya Airlines, a subsidiary of the state-owned Aeroflot group. It has General Electric engines, which are different from the Pratt & Whitney PW4000 that were installed on the United Airlines plane that recently made an emergency landing in Denver and caused a fire.

On a recent trip from Moscow to Paris, I flew on the 777 operated by Rossiya. It is a newer aircraft with an improved inflight entertainment system, and the soft product was quite good (proper business-class level of food, amenity kit, metal cutlery, hot towels). Its drawbacks were that its 777-300ER fleet is in need of refurbishment, and SVO’s new Terminal C is severely overcrowded.
Hundreds of Russian holidaymakers were left stranded in Turkey this week after two flights operated by Red Wings Airlines had technical problems. The Boeing 777s, which had 410 passengers aboard, were due to fly from Antalya to Yekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport but failed to take off, according to the Moscow Times. The airline has reportedly been having problems with its aircraft as Western sanctions against Russia continue to bite.
The Red Wings 777s were likely having issues related to the newer inflight entertainment systems. The newest 777s have touch-screen monitors instead of traditional video screens. The old 777s had conventional screens, but the new ones are better at delivering more details in high definition.
The Boeing 777 is a beautiful plane to look at, but a modeller has to be careful not to get too detailed, otherwise the detail will obscure the main features of the plane. This is a risk with many aircraft models, but I think this one was done well. The shape, fit, and dihedral of the vertical and horizontal stabilisers are excellent. The rudder detailing is a little less successful, with the rudder not going to the top of the tail and lacking a rectangular hinge box. The printed windowline also appears a little high at the rear in comparison to the neutral position of the horizontal stabilisers.
